HON'BLE JUSTICE NITIN WASUDEO SAMBRE

Born on December 19, 1967, in Nagpur, His Lordship completed schooling at Somalwar High School and Shivaji Science College and earned his law degree from the University College of Law, Nagpur, in 1992.

An active sportsman, he represented Maharashtra in national events and served as President of the Students’ Union in his law college in 1991.

Legal Career

Enrolled as an advocate on August 25, 1992. Began practising under Senior Advocate Sharad A. Bobde, who later became Chief Justice of India. His Lordship practiced across civil, writ, and criminal matters at all three benches of the Bombay High Court (Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nagpur).

His Lordship held several key roles:

Secretary, High Court Bar Association, Nagpur (2004–2007)

Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor (from 1 September 2007)

Standing Counsel for agencies such as Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil, BHEL, and counsel for bodies like Municipal Councils, Tata Sons, Godrej.

Judicial Tenure & Notable Work

His Lordship elevated as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on January 06, 2014 and Permanent Judge on March 02, 2016.

His Lordship was appointed as the Senior Administrative Judge of the Nagpur Bench in November, 2023 and subsequently entrusted with additional responsibilities, including serving as Chairman of the Bombay High Court Legal Services Sub-Committee, Nagpur Bench, Member of the Governing Council of the State Judicial Academy, Chairman of the Election Commission at MNLU, Nagpur and active member of the Judicial Officers’ Welfare Committee.

Throughout his tenure at the Bombay High Court, His Lordship became well-known for citizen-centric rulings, particularly in Public Interest Litigation addressing issues of environmental protection, civic infrastructure and governmental accountability. Noteworthy among these were matters relating to the preservation of Ambazari Lake, removal of pedestrian encroachments, regulation of traffic congestion arising from hospital clusters in residential areas and forest conservation near the Pench Tiger Reserve.

His Lordship administered oath as Judge of Delhi High Court on 21st July, 2025.
